A Community of Learners

Lawrence Public Schools offer a continuum of high-quality educational services for learners of all ages, from infants to adults.

The East Heights Early Childhood Family Center offers a Parents as Teachers Program, serving families of children from birth to age three. Its Early Childhood Educational Readiness Preschool uses a familiy literacy model in serving four-year-old children not currently enrolled in a community preschool program.

Fifteen elementary schools serve students in kindergarten through the sixth grade, while four junior high schools serve students in grades seven through nine. Two comprehensive high schools, Lawrence High and Lawrence Free State High School, prepare students in grades 10-12 for post-secondary education and future careers.

The fastest-growing virtual school in the state of Kansas is the Lawrence Virtual School, serving students living anywhere in the state of Kansas in kindergarten through eighth grade. Along with the Lawrence Virtual Secondary Program for Grades nine through twelve, the Lawrence Virtual School and its teachers assist families in educating their children in the home using a high-quality, standards- and Web-based curriculum.

If you have an interest in adult education courses, the Adult Learning Center offers instruction in basic reading and math skills, skill development for employment, G.E.D. Preparation and Testing, and English as a Second Language Services. Adults can earn a high school diploma through the Lawrence Diploma-Completion Program, a partnership of Lawrence Public Schools and the South Central Kansas Education Service Center.

Whether your family is welcoming a new baby, enrolling a school-age child, preparing a teenager for college, seeking virtual schooling options or looking for adult classes to advance in a career, Lawrence Public Schools have an option for you.
